Mostly, the Central and State boards commence their class 12th board exams in the month of February and March, leaving behind less time for JEE Mains preparation which is scheduled in January and April. JEE Mains is a national level engineering entrance exam conducted by NTA in a computer-based online test. There are lots of similarities between JEE Mains and board exam preparations. As per JEE Main 2018 question paper analysis, around 35% to 40% questions were picked directly from the concepts explained in NCERT textbooks. Therefore, the students are advised to have a proper study plan so that the preparations for both are commenced simultaneously leaving behind sufficient time for practice and revision. Here we have provided a few valuable tips for class 12 students that are to be kept in mind while preparing for JEE Mains and Board Exams.
- Prepare NCERT Textbooks: Board exams focus more on testing theoretical understanding of concepts while JEE Mains is all about its practical applications. While preparing, the students are advised to be well-versed with the theoretical and conceptual part given in the NCERT textbooks. Don’t skip any chapter, no matter how difficult or insignificant the chapter sounds. Devote sufficient time to ensure that all the concepts are thoroughly prepared.
- Proper preparation strategy: Preparation strategy plays a major role in the success of students in competitive exams like IIT JEE. 70% of topics covered in the syllabus of JEE Mains is mapped with class 12 board exam syllabus. Set a deadline for every chapter and write it down in your study plan. This helps to measure your progress and acts as a motivating factor. Be practical and set targets that can be achieved.
- Practice Previous Years’ Question Papers: Solving question papers promote conceptual clarity, increases confidence and familiarizes with the real exam scenario. Before final exams, practice at least 5 to 6 previous years’ question papers of both JEE and Boards.
- Regular Revision: A lot of topics covered in JEE and Board exam syllabus require constant revision to avoid forgetting of concepts. Regular revision of inorganic chemistry, trigonometric identities, Maths and physics formulas, etc. can help significantly in raising your preparation level.
